The First Energy Meeting of Caribbean Heads of State and Government
is to be held next Thursday in the city of Puerto La Cruz, eastern
Anzoátegui state. During the event, the establishment of
Petrocaribe will be cemented.
"Venezuela has the Caribbean in its heart, hence this meeting.
Some major geopolitical projects proposed by the Venezuelan
government will be shaped," Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez
said last Sunday in his TV and radio show "Hello, President!"
Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, Saint Vicent and The
Granadines, Saint Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, Saint Kitts &
Nevis, Guadalupe, Antigua & Barbuda, Virgin Islands, Barbados,
Surinam, Belize, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic
will attend the event.
"Here is Puerto Rico, said President Chávez pointing to
the map. Well, it will not be invited. Unfortunately, Puerto
Rico is still a US territory. Therefore, we could not invite
it."
The president confirmed that Cuban VP Carlos Lage will represent
ruler Fidel Castro. Also, he sent "an envoy to Haiti, as it
is part of the Caribbean."
