Dominican government Monday endorsed Venezuela's move to request
the extradition of anti-Castro activist Luis Posada Carriles,
who has been accused of blasting a Cubana de Aviación airplane
in 1976, killing 73 people.
Miguel Mejía, a minister without portfolio who is a friend
of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, claimed that the extradition
of the Cuban exile "is not a problem of political, ideological
or personal differences," but "a problem of international law,"
news agency Efe reported.
''If they (the United States) do not extradite Posada their
own laws will be at stake and their rhetoric against terrorism
-on which they have based to intervene countries around the
world- will be questioned", the Dominican official said.
