The Venezuelan government is to process the extradition request
of the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) leader known
as "Chigüiro" when the Colombian government formally requests
so, Monday said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Alí Rodríguez
as quoted by news agency AFP.
"As soon as the extradition is formally requested, we shall
take all relevant steps in Venezuela and give an answer. But
there must be a formal request," Rodríguez said when asked
by reporters following the announcement made by the Colombian
government on Sunday.
"We shall resort to the judicial cooperation agreement with
Venezuela to request the extradition of "Chigüiro" to Colombia,
where he is being wanted for committing several crimes," stated
the Colombian Minister of Interior and Justice Sabas Pretelt.
The identity of the FARC rebel, who was captured in Venezuela
after his involvement in the kidnapping of the Venezuelan
major league baseball player Ugueth Urbina's mother, was confirmed
on Saturday by the Venezuelan Minister of the Interior Jesse
Chacón.
