US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director Porter Goss
Wednesday classified Venezuela, along with Colombia, Haiti,
Cuba, and Mexico, as "potentially" unstable countries in 2005,
news agency Efe reported.
These countries may become "conflictive spots" this year,
said Goss to the Senate Intelligence Committee when questioned
about the major threats facing the United States.
Though CIA director made clear that US's top enemy is Al
Qaida, he also expressed the agency concerns about the current
situation in several Latin American countries.
Regarding Venezuela, he stated that President Hugo Chávez
is consolidating his power against his foes by means of "technically
legal" tactics and is meddling with other countries' domestic
affairs with the support of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
