Peru and El Salvador governments praise Venezuelan democracy
The governments of Peru and El Salvador praised the Venezuelan
democratic process after the victory of president Hugo Chávez
in the recall referendum on his mandate.
"I reiterate our deep satisfaction for the democratic behavior
of the Venezuelan people," Manuel Rodríguez, Peruvian
Foreign Affair Minister, said in a press conference held during
an official visit to Central America, news agency AP reported.
Together with his Salvadorian counterpart Francisco Laínez,
Rodríguez said that the respect for other countries internal
affairs bars them from declaring "specifically on the triumph
of a political force in the recall."
However, he said that the "process for the consolidation
of democracy in Venezuela is of interest for the whole region
since democracy is among the goods highly and multilaterally
defended in the Americas."
